Yang Rudai, former member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Changxu, honorary chairman of the conference and academician of the two academies; Zhou Ji, president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Jiang Jufeng, Chairman of the International Federation of Biomaterials Science and Engineering, Nicholas Peppas, Vice Minister of Education Du Zhanyuan, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Director of the China Association for Science and Technology Decision Advisory Committee Qi Rang, Vice Minister of Science and Technology Wang Weizhong, former Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Chen Guanquan, Honorary Chairman of the Conference, Chengdu Mayor Ge Honglin, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chengdu Municipal People’s Congress Wang Dongzhou, Secretary of the Sichuan University Party Committee Yang Quanming, Honorary Chairman of the Conference, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of Sichuan University Xie Heping, Deputy High-tech Industry Department of the National Development and Reform Commission Director Ren Zhiwu, Director Wang Baoting of the Department of Medical Devices of the State Drug and Food Supervision Administration, and Gao Ruiping, Director of the Office of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and distinguished guests attended the opening ceremony of the conference. Also present at the opening ceremony were academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, international biomaterials science and engineering fellows, and heads of relevant departments in Sichuan Province, Chengdu City, and Sichuan University. Experts, scholars and young scientific and technological workers in the field of biomaterials from 57 countries and regions around the world attended the opening ceremony. The chairman of the conference, chairman of the China Biomaterials Committee, chairman of the Chinese Society for Biomaterials, and Academician Zhang Xingdong of Sichuan University presided over the opening ceremony.

The 9th World Biomaterials Conference is the first time that the conference has settled in China since its founding 32 years ago. The strength in biomaterials science and engineering is the primary indicator of the location of the conference. The location of this conference in China indicates that China's biomaterial science and engineering has successfully stepped onto the world stage and entered the international advanced level.
